Vulcan has set out to do for cybersecurity what DevOps and R&D did for innovation, according to the Israeli startup’s cofounder Yaniv Bar-Dayan.

At a macro level, there is one single point that divides cybersecurity technology and that is the choice to address the situation prior to a breach or after, he saidat a day-long event organized by Greenspring Associates to celebrate cybersecurity.

Vulcan chose to address remediation and has consequently focused on “just fixing” networks after a breach. To do so, it uses a lot of data and develops sharp tools that enable speedy resolution after network intrusions.

It has been an “amazing adventure” and “we are (now) living this crazy dream of building a company,” said Bar-Dayan, recalling his startup journey since spending five years in the Israeli army, starting when he was 18.

Since being discharged from the army, Bar-Dayan worked for Israel’s defense contractor, Elbit Systems, where he rose to be regional director before pairing first with colleague Tal Morgenstern, now Vulcan’s chief product officer, and Chief Technology Officer Roy Horev, who he dubbed a “gift from God.”

Growing the company in both San Francisco and Tel Aviv, setting up an innovation process, and sales are his top priorities heading into 2020 when Vulcan also plans to raise more funding.
